Community Classes

Discover the joy of learning and creating with community art classes led by artist and educator Noreen Powell. With over 20 years of teaching experience, from college-level art history to hands-on “learn & paint” workshops, Noreen brings engaging, accessible, and inspiring art instruction to libraries, nature centers, community groups, and more.

Are you a Librarian, Program Director, or Community Coordinator?

Noreen would love to design a class for your audience. She offers flexible scheduling, approachable project options, and classes suitable for all ability levels. Each session is designed to spark creativity, provide social connection, and give students a meaningful, educational experience.

For more than two decades, Noreen Powell has shared her love of art with learners of all backgrounds. Trained in Fine Arts at Buffalo State University and holding a Master’s in Education (Art concentration) from SUNY Albany, she combines strong academic knowledge with a warm, encouraging, and highly organized teaching style.

Her community classes are designed to help adults not only paint, but truly learn - integrating artistic technique, creative problem-solving, and thoughtful reflection. Whether she’s teaching in a library, nature preserve, community center, or continuing education program, Noreen tailors each session to the environment and goals of the group.

Noreen’s instruction often blends:

  • Foundational art techniques -- color mixing, composition, shading, brushwork, and perspective

  • Art history integration -- highlighting influential artists, “the classics,” and movements that shaped how we understand art today

  • Nature-based inspiration -- drawing on the beauty, symbolism, and design found in creation

  • Hands-on learning -- step-by-step guided painting or drawing with room for individual style

  • Creative confidence-building -- cultivating community, discovery, and the belief that everyone can make meaningful art

In addition to her classes, Noreen has taught continuing education art history courses at Hudson Valley Community College, bringing an academic richness to her instruction that elevates her workshops beyond a typical “paint night.”

She provides all class materials, handles setup, and ensures that participants feel prepared, supported, and excited to create. From beginner-friendly sessions to more advanced technique studies, Noreen’s community classes offer a memorable and educational experience for adults of all ages.
